Ani Kavafian, violin

Violinist Ani Kavafian enjoys a career as soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. Concertmaster of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, she will perform with the orchestra as soloist in February 2010, and will start a project to record the complete Mozart Concertos with conductor William Boughton. In December 2009 in a project with CMS, she will conduct workshops in Taiwan for talented students, together with David Finckel, Wu Han, Leon Fleisher, and Arnold Steinhardt. She appears frequently with her sister, violinist Ida Kavafian; they celebrated the 25th anniversary of their Carnegie Hall debut as a duo last November with a concert at CMS. She is a member of two chamber groups: the Kavafian-Schub-Shifrin Trio, with Andre-Michel Schub and David Shifrin and the Triton Horn Trio with William Purvis and Mihae Lee. Together with cellist Carter Brey, she is artistic director of Mostly Music, a chamber music series in New Jersey that celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. She has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Her recordings include the Bach sonatas with Kenneth Cooper, Mozart sonatas with Jorge Federico Osorio, and the recently released piano trio of Justin Dello Joio with Jeremy Denk and Carter Brey. A full professor at Yale University, Ms. Kavafian plays a 1736 Stradivarius and has been an Artist of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 1979.
