
This season marks the release of two recordings representing the versatility of violinist Ida Kavafian - Michael Daugherty's Fire and Blood, a concerto she premiered in 2003 and has played extensively since, and two string quartets by the Bluegrass virtuoso, Mark O'Connor. Also on her calendar are numerous solo and chamber music activities both national and international, including concerts with O'Connor and "Curtis On Tour," the touring program of The Curtis Institute Other activities include chamber performances with her piano quartet, OPUS ONE, and her 26th year as artistic director of Music from Angel Fire in New Mexico. Ms. Kavafian has toured and recorded with the Guarneri, Orion, and American string quartets and with such artists as Chick Corea and Wynton Marsalis. A graduate of the The Juilliard School where she studied with Oscar Shumsky, she was presented in her debut by Young Concert Artists. During her six year tenure with the Beaux Arts Trio, the group received a Grammy nomination and was named Musical America's Ensemble of the Year. A faculty member of The Curtis Institute of Music and the Bard College Conservatory, she and her husband, violist Steven Tenenbom have also found success outside of music in breeding, training, and showing champion Vizsla dogs, including the 2003 Number One Vizsla in the US and the 2007 National Champion. She has been an Artist of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 1989.
