Last season Cellist Nicolas Altstaedt gave his debut performance with the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. He also performed with the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Stuttgart (under Sir Roger Norrington), Berlin, Helsinki, Melbourne, the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, and played the opening concert of the Salzburger Festspiele 2008. This season he appeared in the opening concert of the Kronberg Cello Festival with Gidon Kremer, Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, and Kremerata Baltica and will make his debut at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris in March 2010. Winner of the Adam International Cello Competition in New Zealand in 2006 and the Borletti Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2009, he regularly performs with musicians such as Gidon Kremer, Alexander Lonquich, Jorg Widmann, and the Quatuor Ebene. His debut CD was chosen by The Strad magazine as the selection of the month for December 2007. In addition, his two most recent recordings, of the Haydn concertos with the Potsdamer Kammerakademie and concertos by Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Gulda, were highly acclaimed worldwide, and the latter received five Diapasons d'Or awards. Of German and French descent, Mr. Altstaedt was one of Boris Pergamenschikow's last students in Berlin, where he is continuing his studies with Eberhard Feltz, and he is a member of CMS Two. He plays a cello by Nicolas Lupot (Paris, 1821) on loan to him by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
