Winner of the 2007 Georg Solti Foundation career grant, flutist Sooyun Kim has made concerto appearances with the New Jersey Symphony, New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, the Gardner Museum Chamber Orchestra, the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Boston Pops Orchestra. She has given recitals at the Franz Liszt Hall in Budapest, Salle Cortot in Paris, Hochschule fur Musik in Munich, Bunka Hall in Kobe, Japan, Sejong Arts Hall in Seoul, Korea, Kennedy Center, and Carnegie, Merkin, and Jordan halls. Her summer appearances include the Spoleto USA Festival, the Newport Music Festival, Orford Arts Centre, Music@Menlomailto:Music@Menlo and Yellow Barn Festival. She has won prizes at the Haynes International Flute Competition, the James Pappoutsakis International Flute Competition, the National Flute Association Competition, and the New Jersey Symphony's Young Artist Auditions. She earned her bachelor and master of music degrees at the New England Conservatory with flutist Paula Robison, Kim Kashkashian, and John Gibbons, and has participated in master classes with James Galway, Maxence Larrieu, and the late Julius Baker and Jean-Pierre Rampal. In December 2007, Ms. Kim was named one of Korea's Young Leaders of Tomorrow by the Korean Central Daily News in recognition of her achievements in the Arts. Ms. Kim is a member of Chamber Music Society Two.
