Tara Helen O'Connor, flute

Last season, flutist Tara Helen O'Connor recorded Marc Neikrug's Through Roses with Pinchas Zukerman and actor John Rubenstein and completed a CD of contemporary pieces for flute and piano written for her and pianist Margaret Kampmeier. She performed in Europe with soprano Dawn Upshaw and the chamber ensemble Andalucian Dogs, and gave a solo recital a solo recital in North Carolina with pianist Jeremy Denk. This season she traves to Adelaide, Australia, as a guest of the Annual Australian Flute Festival performing solo recitals and giving master classes. Next summer she will repeat her master class at the Banff Centre and will appear in concerts throughout the season at the 92nd Street Y, Zankel Hall, and Symphony Space. A founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning New Millennium Ensemble, she is a member of the woodwind group Windscape and is flute soloist of the Bach Aria Group. Winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, she was the first wind player to participate in the CMS Two program. She performs regularly at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Chamber Music Northwest, the Spoleto Festival USA, Music from Angel Fire, and with the Brandenburg Ensemble. She received two Grammy nominations in 2003 for her recording of Osvaldo Golijov's Yiddishbbuk. A faculty member of the Bard College Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music, Ms. O'Connor is professor of flute and head of the wind department at Purchase College Conservatory of Music.
