Franz Schubert Schwanengesang for Voice and Piano, D. 957
Randall Scarlata, baritone; Jonathan Biss, piano
Commentary on Schubert's A major Piano Sonata featuring Jonathan Biss
"Who can do anything after him?" Franz Schubert was reported to have asked after serving as a pallbearer for Beethoven. But, in the short year that the shy composer had left to live, Schubert filled the void left by the Viennese titan, miraculously producing some of music's most treasured masterpieces. Pianist Inon Barnatan, a bright young star of the piano and a familiar figure on CMS' stages, curates this three-concert festival, which recently played to sold-out houses at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw.
