It’s become an evergreen pairing over the past 15 years—the crystalline sounds of Baroque music from CMS and the festive, happy month of December! This season’s Baroque Festival begins on Friday, December 12, with an exquisite program of Bach Gamba Sonatas performed by the extraordinary duo of Angela Hewitt and Daniel Muller-Schott. Sunday, December 14 and Tuesday, December 16 brings the pentulitmate Baroque performance—CMS’ annual presentation of the Complete Brandenburg Concertos. Finally, listeners will enjoy The Beautiful and the Bizarre on Friday, December 19 and Sunday, December 21, while welcoming renowned soprano Christine Brewer in her CMS debut.
We all get so much pleasure from the annual Baroque Festival – musical delight, holiday warmth, and the special inner glow from connecting with other music lovers. This year, we invite you to share some of the joy you receive from these concerts through our “Need in the Neighborhood” project.
Did you know that there are 8 food banks or service providers in the small area bounded by Columbus and West End Avenues, and 69th to 74th Streets? Even as we’re enjoying these wonderful concerts, residents in our own neighborhood are struggling, and the food banks themselves are struggling to keep up.
YOU CAN HELP! Bring a non-perishable food item (no baby food) to any of the Baroque concerts December 12, 14, 16, 19, or 21, and CMS will deliver your donations to the Project Find Hamilton Senior Center on West 73rd Street. We’ve worked with Project Find to provide concert tickets to their clients in the past, and look forward to helping the center with this project.
Enjoy the concerts—and a wonderful holiday season—and accept our thanks if you can help to address “Need in the Neighborhood.”
