Generations of Masters

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Spanning more than 200 years, this program samples some of the most colorful music ever written. From Beethoven’s early essay for three distinct voices, to Frenchman Saint-Saens’ playful take on the Italian “Tarentella” dance, to Mario Davidovsky’s evocative and luminescent Septet, the program culminates with one of the most beloved works in the chamber music repertoire—Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet.

  • Ludwig van Beethoven—Serenade in D major for Flute, Violin, and Viola, Op. 25 (1801)
  • Mario Davidovsky*—Septet for Piano, Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass (2008)
  • Franz Schubert—Piano Quintet in A major, Op. 114, “Trout” (1819)
