  • The Chamber Music Society concludes both its special series of concerts showcasing the chamber music of Sergei Rachmaninov, and its 2007-2008 season, on Friday, May 9 and Sunday, May 11 at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. The program features the Trio élégiaque in G minor for Piano Trio; Two Movements for String Quartet; Six Songs for Voice and Piano, Op. 38; Romance and Oriental Dance for Cello and Piano, and the Suite No. 2 in C minor for Two Pianos, Op. 17.

  • The final program in the current season of Rose Studio Concert series will be presented Thursday, May 1, at 6:30pm, and again at 9:30pm. The program, performed by violist Ida Kavafian and the Jupiter String Quartet, features Mendelssohn’s powerful String Quartet in F minor, Op. 80, and Brahms’ String Quintet in G major, Op. 111.

  • The Chamber Music Society presents three works by 2007-2008 Season Composer Joan Tower on Sunday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 27, at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. The program features the world premiere of Tower’s Simply Purple for solo viola (CMS commission), the New York premiere of Trio Cavany for piano trio (CMS Co-commission), and Wild Purple for solo viola.

  • The Chamber Music Society’s popular family concert series, Meet the Music! presents its final concert of the current season on Sunday, April 6 at 1pm and 3pm in Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center. The program will explore the sometimes outrageous music of the radical American composer George Antheil, self-described “bad boy of music.”

  • On April 17 in the Daniel and Johanna S. Rose Studio, the Chamber Music Society presents the second of three programs devoted to the chamber works of the late-Russian Romantic Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943). The concert features works for two pianos: the Suite No. 1, Op. 5, “Fantaisie-tableaux,” and Symphonic Dances, Op. 45.

  • The Chamber Music Society’s series of concerts in the Daniel and Johanna S. Rose Studio continues Thursday, April 3, with performances at 6:30pm and 9:30pm. The one-hour all-Schubert program features the Quartettsatz in C minor for Strings, D. 703, and the Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major, D. 929, Op. 100. The concert will be performed by pianist Inon Barnatan, violinists Lily Francis and Yoon Kwon, violist Beth Guterman, and cellist Julie Albers.
