Dear Members of the CMS Family,
I write today to let you know that I will be stepping down as Executive Director of CMS at the end of this coming season, June 2013. This has not been an easy decision to make, and as a fellow lover of chamber music, I am sure you will understand. My twelve years at CMS have been challenging and exhilarating, as we found ourselves moving out of our home at Alice Tully Hall for nearly two seasons, moving back into one of the great chamber music halls in the City, welcoming new, inspiring Artistic Directors, and making CMS, in every way, a gleaming presence in the New York concert world. In addition, we have laid out an excellent ten-year Strategic Plan that charts our way to important growth in every aspect of our organization. Having completed the initial steps, and with vibrant artistic plans, excellent ticket sales, wonderful press, and strong institutional support in place, I find this an ideal time to hand the reins to a new Executive Director to lead the way forward. In the coming season, I look forward to continuing my partnership with the Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition.
At the same time, I will experience what I know will be a bittersweet pleasure of enjoying our wonderful performances for the last time from “the Executive Director’s box”. I will be constantly reminded of how I treasure CMS as an extraordinary organization that has remained true to its mission. There are countless reasons and opportunities to change course, compromise, dumb-down, and sell out in these days of turmoil and uncertainty, but we have not accepted them. You, as loyal listeners and supporters of CMS, know this very well, and I am sure you share my pride in being a part of something so clear in its purpose and so civilized.
I look forward to seeing you in the coming season, and, beyond that, to enjoying CMS concerts side by side with you!
