In anticipation of one of the key events in its 2012-2013 season, the Jerusalem Quartet’s performances of the complete string quartets of Dmitri Shostakovich, the Chamber Music Society has launched a multi-feature site devoted to these extraordinary works.
The site www.ShostakovichQuartets.com, unprecedented in scope, will include the following features:
- Biographical information
- Long and short notes on each quartet by musicologist Paul Griffiths
- Timeline depicting the historical events, juxtaposed with a timeline of the quartets
- Videos: including performance excerpts and commentary from the Jerusalem Quartet and other musicians
- Live-streaming of first of the five lectures, followed by post-lecture online access to the additional four
- Interactive musical score of one movement
- Streamed and downloadable AudioNotes with musical examples
- Recording excerpts featuring Emerson String Quartet and the Jerusalem Quartet
- Program Notes, Biography, and Timeline information
