Lovestruck – Inspired by Saint Valentine

Thursday night February 8, Opus, Contemporary Patrons of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, hosted LOVESTRUCK – an intimate affair with art and music. The event, in celebration of Valentine’s Day 2007, took place at Marlborough Gallery.

The event was an exclusive collaboration of the arts, with honorary chair Gwyneth Paltrow, to introduce a young and glamorous audience to chamber music far from Alice Tully Hall. True to chamber music’s intimacy and association with love and passion, the evening revolved around sensuality and romance combining musical performances by artists of the Chamber Music Society Two, with an exhibition of new paintings by renowned Spanish artist Juan Genovés.

There was also an avant-garde performance by The Ridgewood High School Percussion Ensemble, part of CMS’s Young Musicians Program, which is among the education programs supported by Opus.

Marlborough Gallery was transformed into a romantic midnight garden for the evening with ornate French wrought iron gates covered with lush vines welcoming guests with spectacular candelabras lighting the room.

The evening was delivered with an equally sensual menu of culinary indulgences and aphrodisiacs, including a five variety oyster bar, caviar cones, and provocatively named hors d’oeuvres such as “breakfast in bed” and “voluptuous velvet.” Chocolate lovers also indulged in a post-performance dessert bar by La Maison du Chocolat.

The evening was spearheaded by Opus members Lisa and Saar Banin, Michael Evans and Lise Powers, Justin Hays Green, and Bill and Marie Samuels.

Proceeds from LOVESTRUCK go directly to the Chamber Music Society’s wide range of education programs, which reach thousands of children, families, adults, and outstanding young musicians at Lincoln Center.
