CMS’s relationship with Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, has grown into one of the organization’s longest-running and most distinctive residencies. Each Memorial Day weekend, the Chamber Music Festival of the Bluegrass brings hundreds of chamber music enthusiasts to the historic Shaker Village to spend several days immersed in music with world-renowned artists from. Set within a 3,000-acre restored Shaker settlement, the residency reflects a deep connection between music, place, and history.

The festival includes four public concerts, a special patron concert and evening, and a range of educational offerings, including two lectures led by a representative from CMS that explore the history and context of the works performed. Centered in the historic Barn, the residency aligns with the organization’s mission of preservation, sustainability, and public education, and has become a signature cultural event for the region.
