Bassoonist Angela Anderson Smith has been a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1997. Her previous orchestra memberships include the San Jose Symphony, where she served as second bassoon, and the San Antonio Symphony, where she was assistant principal/second bassoon. She has been a faculty member of the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University since 1999; she has also been on the faculties of Rutgers University and the University of Texas at Austin. An avid chamber musician, she performs frequently on the Philadelphia Orchestra's chamber music series. She is also a member of the Network for New Music in Philadelphia, and of The Conwell Quintet, an ensemble made up of Temple faculty members. She has performed chamber concerts and given master classes at numerous venues in the United States and Asia. She is currently commissioning a newly completed work for woodwind quintet in partnership with the Philadelphia based organization Artolerance, and is planning to commission more new chamber music works in the future. Ms. Smith received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of New Mexico, and a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California under the tutelage of Norman Herzberg.
