A single evening’s music leaps from the dawn of Beethoven’s Classical revolution to the Romantic epicenter in the hands of Schumann. From Beethoven’s elegant trio to Weber’s extroverted quintet, the clarinet becomes an instrument of operatic flair. A classical framework supports Schumann’s Piano Quintet (history’s first!) in expressing the composer’s most unrestrained emotions.
- Beethoven Trio in B-flat major for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano, Op. 11 (1797)
- Weber Quintet in B-flat major for Clarinet, Two Violins, Viola, and Cello, Op. 34 (1811-15)
