Like a shooting star, Franz Schubert blazed across music's sky for a brief 31 years, leaving behind over 1,000 works that transformed the Classical into the Romantic age.
Four programs spanning Schubert's creative career and variety of compositions offer a rich journey into one of music's most ethereal worlds. A fifth concert explores how the legacy of Schubert and composers in the two centuries following his death have re-worked and been inspired by his compositions.
Program
- Schubert Adagio and Rondo concertante in F major for Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello, D. 487 (1816)
- Schubert Allegro in A minor for Piano, Four Hands, D. 947, Op. 144, “Lebensstürme” (1828)
- Schubert Fantasy in C major for Violin and Piano, D. 934, Op. 159 (1827)
- Schubert Trio No.1 in B-flat major for Piano, Violin, and Cello, D. 898, Op. 99 (1827)
