The Baroque era opened the door for the violin to emerge as a defining voice in music. This program features an all-star cast of CMS violinists performing thrilling solo roles in Baroque concertos, including Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, one of the earliest examples of program music. Linked to sonnets possibly written by Vivaldi himself, the works depict the seasons through musical suggestions of babbling brooks, thunder and lightning, blasts of winter wind, and birdsong.

Just Announced! Two newly discovered Bach pieces for organ—not heard for 300 years until they were unveiled in Leipzig, Germany, in November—have surfaced just in time for CMS's Baroque Festival. In celebration of this discovery, CMS has added both pieces to these concerts on December 6 and 7, which are expected to be the first major concert hall performances of these works in New York.

Although both concerts are now sold out, please visit our YouTube page beginning Tuesday, December 9, at noon to watch free video of these two Bach works! Also note that the full concert performance, including Vivaldi's Four Seasons, will be available as part of our Digital Encores series.

Please note that 40 & Under pricing is available only for the Sat, Dec 6 performance.
