Beethoven Trilogy II - Middle Period
In the first decade of the 19th century, Beethoven emerged from crisis, committed to fulfilling his artistic destiny in the face of deafness. On his new path, he dramatically expanded the scale and depth of his writing. The Calidore Quartet begins their exploration of this era with the authoritative Op. 59 “Razumovsky” quartets, and follows the composer through his turbulent stylistic evolution in Op. 74, Op. 95, and Op. 127.
This portion of the season features other Beethoven essentials from his “heroic” era, including a piano trio which has gained iconic status in the chamber music literature. There are also dazzling Haydn and Mozart pieces from their twilight years, a monumental and undersung classic from Anton Bruckner, and much more.
