Beethoven Trilogy I - Early Period
By the age of 30, Beethoven had captured the attention of Viennese audiences with his charismatic piano playing and provocative compositions. Published in 1801, his first collection of string quartets—Op. 18—marked a thrilling new chapter in his career and stands as a crucial landmark in the development of chamber music. The Calidore String Quartet will perform the six pieces across two concerts in October.
This part of the season includes related works by the young Beethoven: a groundbreaking early piano trio and his beloved Septet. These programs also feature work by composers in similar stages of life and career: Brahms showcases his youthful energy, Bartók ventures into classical forms, and the 30-year-old John Corigliano composes a stunning work on a poem by Dylan Thomas.
