Friendship and Love
Brahms: Liebeslieder Walzer for Vocal Quartet and Piano, Four Hands, Op. 52
SOMETHING TO KNOW:
Brahms was inspired by Schubert and Johann Strauss to create these 18 Love Song Waltzes. Styled after popular music, they sold very well and were published in various arrangements.
SOMETHING TO LISTEN FOR:
Brahms marked the first song to be played in the tempo of a Ländler, a triple-time dance that was a predecessor to the waltz.
Recorded live in Alice Tully Hall on October 29, 2017.
