Mozart: Quintet for Two Violins, Two Violas, and Cello in C major, K. 515
SOMETHING TO KNOW:
Mozart composed this string quintet and his G minor quintet while writing Don Giovanni. They were not immediately popular but today are his two most celebrated quintets.
SOMETHING TO LISTEN FOR:
Mozart combines the ensemble in creative ways—he makes good use of convivial duos, particularly between the first violin and cello in the opening and the first violin and first viola in the slow movement.
Recorded live in Alice Tully Hall on October 17, 2017.
