David Fanning
WriterDavid Fanning is Professor Emeritus of the University of Manchester and Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto. He is author and editor of books and critical editions on Carl Nielsen, Dmitri Shostakovich, Expressionism, Music under German Occupation, and the 20th-century symphonic tradition. Since 1980 he has been a music critic, broadcaster, essayist, and public speaker, and as a pianist he has had long-standing partnerships with the Lindsay String Quartet and the Quatuor Danel. For 20 years he has also been at the forefront of the rediscovery of Polish-born, Soviet-settled composer Mieczysław Weinberg.
