David Schiff
WriterComposer and author David Schiff holds degrees in English Literature from Columbia and Cambridge universities, and in music composition from the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School, where he studied with Elliott Carter. He has written books about the music of Carter, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington. His many articles about music have appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, and The Times Literary Supplement. He is professor emeritus of music at Reed College.
