In his award-winning TV documentary in 2004, Britten’s Children, John Bridcut explored how the composer’s affinity with boys colored his music, and his similarly-titled book examined further these often intense friendships and the music they inspired. He also published a study of the full range of Britten’s music, and the nooks and crannies of his life, in Essential Britten. Among Bridcut’s later portfolio of music documentaries is Britten’s Endgame, a film broadcast for the composer’s centenary in 2013.
