CMS at 50
One half-century ago this year, a handful of visionary and devoted individuals launched the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Their goal was to ensure that this rich musical genre, to which the great composers contributed many of their most extraordinary works, would hold an equal and permanent place at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts table. Today, no one can deny the success of their mission: CMS not only continues to thrive at Lincoln Center, but also has earned a leadership identity in the world of chamber music. Robust New York seasons, international tours and partnerships, and trend setting media projects showcase the talents of its evolving, multi-generational roster of artists, who deliver consistently superlative performances of the repertoire, from the classics to music of our time.
