Master Classes
The Master Class Series offers an unparalleled opportunity for the next generation of chamber ensembles to refine their craft in front of a live, ticketed audience. These dynamic sessions bring aspiring musicians together with our world-renowned CMS artists for interactive instruction, real-time feedback, and live demonstrations.
Held in the Rose Studio at CMS, at colleges and conservatories across the country, and on tour worldwide, these master classes serve as a bridge between accomplished artists, emerging ensembles, and engaged audiences. With each session, participants gain personalized guidance, invaluable insights, and practical skills that elevate their musical artistry while audiences witness the fascinating process of artistic growth in real time.

Application Timeline
- Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Ensembles will be selected and confirmed for final participation one (1) month from date of Master Class
- Applications are to be submitted by the following dates in order to be considered:
- Ida Kavafian, violin—Apply by October 9, 2026
- Gilles Vonsattel, piano—Apply by October 16, 2026
- Daniel Phillips, string quartet—Apply by December 11, 2026
- Lawrence Dutton, viola—Apply by February 1, 2027
- Jose Franch-Ballester, clarinet—Apply by February 15, 2027
Application Requirements
- Repertoire Selection
- Biography of each performer (100-150 words)
- One Letter of Recommendation for the Ensemble
Eligibility
- Ensembles must currently be enrolled in a college or conservatory
- Musicians must be currently enrolled in the same college or conservatory
- Musicians must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application
