Romie de Guise-Langlois has performed as soloist with the Houston Symphony, Ensemble Connect, the Burlington Chamber Orchestra, and the Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra, as well as at Festival Mozaic, Music@Menlo, and the Banff Center for the Arts. She was awarded first prize in the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg competition, the Yale University Woolsey Hall Competition, the McGill University Classical Concerto Competition, and the Canadian Music Competition. She has performed as principal clarinetist for the Orpheus and Saint Paul chamber orchestras, NOVUS NY, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the New Haven and Stamford symphony orchestras, and The Knights Chamber Orchestra. A native of Montreal, de Guise-Langlois holds degrees from McGill University and the Yale School of Music. She is a member of the Boston Chamber Music Society and an alum of Ensemble Connect and CMS’s Bowers Program. Associate Professor of Clarinet at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, she previously served on the faculty of Montclair State University.
Inbal Segev has appeared with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, and Pittsburgh Symphony, led by Marin Alsop, Stéphane Denève, Lorin Maazel, Cristian Macelaru, Zubin Mehta, and others. She has commissioned and premiered new concertos from Timo Andres, Anna Clyne, Avner Dorman, and Victoria Poleva. Recorded with Alsop and the London Philharmonic, her premiere recording of Clyne’s concerto topped the Amazon Classical Concertos chart, its opening movement receiving more than 13 million listens on Spotify. During the early pandemic lockdowns, she launched 20 for 2020, a commissioning, recording, and video project for 20 composers, including John Luther Adams, Viet Cuong, Angélica Negrón, and the cellist herself. A dedicated chamber musician, she co-founded the Amerigo Trio with Glenn Dicterow and Karen Dreyfus, and her acclaimed discography includes a collaboration with Juho Pohjonen. Her cello was made by Francesco Ruggieri in 1673.
Pianist Gloria Chien has a diverse musical life as a performer, concert presenter, and educator. She made her orchestral debut at age 16 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Thomas Dausgaard. In 2009 she launched String Theory, a chamber music series in Chattanooga, and the following year was appointed Director of the Chamber Music Institute at Music@Menlo. In 2017, she joined her husband, violinist Soovin Kim, as Co-Artistic Director of the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont. The duo became Artistic Directors at Chamber Music Northwest in 2020, and were named the recipients of the 2021 Award for Extraordinary Service to Chamber Music from CMS. Ms. Chien received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from New England Conservatory, where she was named the Advisor for the prestigious Institute for Concert Artists in 2024. She is an artist-in-residence at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee; a Steinway Artist; and an alum of CMS’s Bowers Program.
