This program celebrates the violin, opening with Tartini’s “Devil’s Trill” Sonata in G minor, a dramatic work that highlights the violin’s expressive intensity, inspired—according to the composer—by a dream of the devil playing the violin. This is followed by Beethoven’s iconic “Kreutzer” Sonata, a masterpiece that transformed the violin–piano sonata into a true partnership between the two instruments. The evening concludes with Saint-Saëns’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in D minor, a beloved work of the French Romantic repertoire whose sweeping melodies, sparkling virtuosity, and splendid finale make it one of the great showcases for violin and piano.
