For the first time in its series history, Live from Lincoln Center takes the show on the road presenting The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in a broadcast from Kentucky’s historic Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. This special event, filmed on location in May 2015, captures the unique intimacy of a chamber music performance in the Meadow View Barn, a restored tobacco barn surrounded by rolling Bluegrass countryside. The concert features esteemed musicians from CMS in works by distinctive American composers including Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Samuel Barber, and Stephen Foster, highlighted by Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, an iconic, enduring ballet suite about a community of 19th Century American pioneers featuring the popular “Simple Gifts” Shaker melody. It is the first time the beloved work has ever been performed in the heart of an authentic Shaker village.
