Stories and Legends
Reinecke: Sonata in E minor for Flute and Piano, Op. 167, “Undine”
SOMETHING TO KNOW:
Reinecke’s Flute Sonata is based on the myth of Undine, a water nymph. She marries a mortal to gain a soul but ends up killing him after he falls out of love with her.
SOMETHING TO LISTEN FOR:
The work begins with sinuous arpeggios that evoke the graceful Undine in flowing water.
Recorded live in the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio on February 7, 2019.
Video directed by Tristan Cook.
